Mizzou Sports- Year in Review

The University of Missouri Athletic Department is coming off of one of their most exciting years across all of their sports. Not only are the major sports doing well, some of the olympic sports are coming around and representing the University well. A national championship, Womens College World Series appearance, a sweet sixteen appearance, beating the number one team in the country, and making the NCAA tourney for the 2nd straight year.

Football:

How could we not start with the football team. Though they are coming off of a very tough loss in the insight bowl, this season will be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in the schools history without a loss to Texas Tech, the team would have likely played in the Big 12 championship. But you can't forget the other great moments this season...

The comeback against Illinois and Moes coming out party, Henrys big day against McNesse State, TJ Moes Miracle against SDSU, the game that was over in 7 seconds against Miami (OH), the first shutout against Colorado, and of course THIS....the trap in Lincoln, and the upset in Lubbock, blowing up the wildcats and then shutting out Iowa State, and who could forget the blowout of kansas? This season had some great moments, and this team has some great potential for 2011 and beyond.

Basketball:

2010 saw one season end and the start of the next. The team had a up and down conference season, with huge wins against Kansas State and Texas, but questionable losses against Oklahoma and Nebraska (in the Big 12 Tourney) but they found a way to win their first game in the NCAA tournament against Clemson as a 10 over 7 seed upset. The new season started with Mike Anderson bringing in the highest rated recruiting class in the programs history. The team will end the year in the top 10, with a record of 13-1 the one loss coming in overtime to Georgetown. The finish of this season should be fun once Big 12 play starts.

And don't forget about the olympic sports....

The Volleyball team made an improbable run into the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. Also completed the biggest upset in tournament history.
The Gymnastics team made a surprise appearance at Nationals last season.
The Softball Team made it to the Womens College World Series, meaning they were one of the top 8 teams in the country

Missouri Wrestler Mark Ellis won the National Championship in the Heavyweight Division
The baseball team had a rebuilding year, but had an upset win over Texas in the Big 12 tournament.

The Womens Basketball team brought in Robin Pingeton to be the new head coach for the program.

Lets hope 2011 brings even better things for this Universities athletics! Go Tigers!
